"Be prepared."

That’s the scout motto. As a Boy Scout in my teens, and later as a Cub Master in fatherhood, I learned to look at life as a series of situations to prepare for, then do my best when participating in them. But how can you be prepared for something as sudden, widespread, and rare as a pandemic? Admit it, you can’t.

What you CAN prepare for, is what happens next…tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, and beyond.

COVID-19 has significantly impacted all of our lives, personally and professionally. For all of you credit warriors who are fighting battles on your companies’ financial front lines, I want to do my part to make sure you are armed with as many tools and resources as possible. Sadly, most of you now will miss out on valuable education and training content due to events being cancelled or postponed. I created CFMTI as an online resource for members of the credit community who are unable to attend live training events. Since that now includes virtually the entire credit community, I invite all of you to participate in CFMTI’s online courses…for free.

From now through April 30, 2020, you and your staff will have complimentary access to all online courses available on CFMTI. An enormous thanks to all the instructors who are generously sharing their experience, knowledge, and wisdom for the benefit of the credit community, and thanks to all of our partners who are helping to get the word out to their members and customers.

I remember during the Great Recession of 2008-2009 when it was the credit teams that stepped up and took a leading role in managing and preserving relationships with their customers, saving their companies billions of dollars in the short and long term. They were the unsung heroes of that financial crisis. We once again find ourselves in extraordinary times, and I strongly encourage you and your team to take advantage of every education and training opportunity to be prepared to step up and take on the significant challenges ahead.

Keep learning and stay healthy,

Mike Mitchell, CAE
